| Growing support for Volleyball in Namibia |

DTS together with the generous sponsorship of Maerua Superspar will once again offer 7 tournaments this year. We received N$ 30.000 sponsorship money from Maerua Superspar (see picture attached), of which N$ 28.000 will be price money (N$ 4000 per tournament) and N$ 2000 is left for other prices at the end of the year. So, we basically give all the sponsorship money back to the players who are having the incentive to win a maximum of N$ 500 per category. “But for most players it is not the money that attracts them to play Volleyball, but to have a day full of fun, being outdoors, being active, being competitive and having a mission for that day” says Heiko Kesselmann, DTS Beach Volleyball Event Organize.
Our very popular 4-a-side mixed category has shown that there is a growing demand for social Volleyball. We also offer 2-a-side social teams to take part on the sand courts together in Youth Division for those social 4-a-side players that want to try the "real" Beach Volleyball. The favorite swimming bay of Swakopmund, the Mole, attracted crowds of spectators on Saturday that came to watch the first Bank Windhoek Namibian Open Beach Volleyball Competition in conjunction with the Zone VI Youth Qualifications. | First DTS Maerua SUPERSPAR Beach Volleyball 2012 |

The first tournament this year took place on Saturday with 12 4-a-side teams and 21 2-a-side teams participating in the 2012 DTS Maerua Superspar
Volleyball Series in windy, but sunny and dry weather conditions.
The Junior Ladies category, sponsored by Windhoek Canopy Centre, has become a popular category for the girls aged between 14 and 18 years. Also part of
this category was the youngest team, 9 year old Amandus Roettcher playing together with 13 year old Luke Brinkmann. These 2 promising young players
managed to win 2 sets against the much older girls who were struggling against these 2 youngsters.
The top 2 teams Janika Stoldt/Bianca Kasch and Clara Hassenpflug/Jana Rumpf were battling it out in the top match of the day with Hassenpflug/Rumpf
winning closely with 2-1 sets. Third place went to Mareike Talkenberg/Britta Frey
The Youth/Social 2-a-side category saw 6 teams taking part, 3 junior boys and 3 social 2-a-side teams. The 3 junior teams were just too strong for
the social players. Tin Hlupic/Brendon de Jager had to settle with third place after they lost 2 matches very closely in the tiebreak with 2-1 sets.
In the match of the day Gero Talkenberg/Bernard Schurz were facing Erik Fischer/Gerard Fischer. After a tough battle and being one set down,
Talkenberg/Schurz won 2-1 (16-21, 21-19, 15-9) to win this junior category.
The Mens category saw top 2 teams Heiko Diehl/Peter Brinkmann playing in the final against Mwita Sikopo/Rector Mbeha. After 1-1 sets, the third
decisive tiebreak had to decide. Diehl/Brinkmann managed to win this decisive set 15-13, walking away with the pricemoney. Third place went to
Dirk Stein/Heiner Ihlein.
The 4-a-side social category had 12 teams battling it out for the tournament title. The top 4 teams that qualified for the semi finals were Cats & Dogs,... [more] |
